who wakes at 5:30 a.m. on vacation? this girl

It's no secret that I battle with insomnia every now and then. So when I found myself wide awake at literally the crack of dawn, I figured I should make the most of it. Why not!

Last year, I experienced my first sunset along the ocean. Now I can say I have seen the sun rise too. Being an insomniac isn't so bad on the Shore.

What did you do today? (8/12/13)
Hit the beach...twice! I woke early to catch the sun rise our first morning on the Shore. So. Worth. It.

Did you learn anything new?
Wildwood has one very wide beach. I'm used to walking out my front door and having the ocean right there. Cross Ocean Avenue and there's a huge parking lot. Then there's the Boardwalk, then there's what feels like an eight-mile sandy walk to get to the water.

What's one "must-do" for anyone that visits?
I convinced Amara that our late lunch needed to be at The Lobster House in historic Cape May. The food is good. Prices are reasonable. And the atmosphere is incredible. We dined on the Schooner American right on the bay. Nothing beats watching the boats coming in and out of Fisherman's Wharf, taking in the salt air. I go to The Lobster House at least twice every visit to the Shore.

Is there anything you wish you could have done?
I tried to convince Amara to shop Washington Street Mall in Cape May. She said no. She wanted to hit Wildwood's Boardwalk again. Go figure!

Have more to say?
After several weeks apart, I'm realizing just how much Amara has "matured" this summer. She's much moodier. We ended up not going to the Boardwalk so I plopped myself on the sofa to watch #RHOC. Yep, some things just don't change. Even on vacation.

We went to the boardwalk and hung out at the beach. And I met a girl named Cristina and her sister, Danielle, and we jumped over waves.

Did you learn anything new?

Cristina taught me how to boogie-board and it is so fun. If you catch a big wave then you go farther and faster on your board.

What's one "must-do" for anyone that visits?
A must-do is go to the beach and just hang out in the water because there are so many things to do and it's just tons of fun.

Is there anything you wish you could have done?
I wish I couldn't have had a ear-ache. That resulted in not going to the boardwalk and it was my fault.

Cristina and Danielle are at the same motel as us and are in the room right next to us. We were in awe for a long time.
