what's the secret to your success?

Did you see NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams last night?

The news show chose four topics, pertinent in the lives of women: health, work, friendship and finance. And is running a series that runs all this week called "The Secret to Her Success."

The entire thing got me thinking: What's the secret to my success?

Me? Successful?

I first came up with a witty phrase - articulate persistence.

To me, that's what you call being a bullsh!tting nag! I'll talk my way into your heart so that you have to give me the deal, the job, etc.

But seriously, my successes (what little I have) can be attributed to knowledge.

Four years ago, I knew little about how to rear a child. So I did my homework. I researched a lot. I talked to pediatricians. I asked for advice from other moms. And if I say so myself, I'm not a bad mom.

I get tossed into many situations at work, when I think "how the hell do you do that?" So I look at what's been done in the past, I analyze how I can do it better, then probe other professionals until I get the assignment done.

Keeping house was never part of my duties growing up. I did not know how to cook. I could barely iron a crease into a dress shirt. So I scoured the Internet for tips until I could gt it right.

By arming myself with the appropriate tools and surrounding myself with the wisdom of others, I can say I'm a success: in my home, at my job, and in my life.

How about you? What's the secret to your success?
today's good: I'm alive. I'm well. And so is my family.
today's bad: Rain.

  1. You can iron a crease in a dress shirt? Wow. Another reason for me to admire you.

  2. Dogged determination. Single-mindedness and focus. Not let anything distract me from the thing that I want to acomplish.

  3. Same as yours. In the workplace, my motto always was "I may not know, but I can find out!"
