she wants to be a star

Amara spends a lot of time in the mom-mobile with me.

Unfortunately I don't pay enough attention to what's playing on my satellite radio. And some inappropriate music for a five-year-old ends up roaring through my car speakers.

This season's latest hits: Katy Perry's "I Kissed A Girl" and the Pussycat Dolls "When I Grow Up."

Aside from turning bright red with embarrassment when she begins to sing the lyrics in front of other parents, I'm usually OK with the fact that she's singing pop songs instead of the Wiggles.

Until last week.

Amara was given her first homework assignment in kindergarten.

She had to write a "story" about her life. It was simple. Fill in the blanks.

In the past...

She lived in the Yellow House.

Right now...

Her best friend is Nina.

In the future...

This one stumped her. She asked what the "future" meant. And I explained it to her.

So Amara sat for a minute and then her face lit up with sheer delight. I knew this was going to be good.

That's when Amara exclaimed, "Mom, in the future, I want to be a star!"

So I prodded her. And she told me she wants to "see the world and drive nice cars."

Thank goodness she couldn't remember the rest of the lyrics. Because if her teacher were to ask her and she would end her response with "I want to have boobies," I think children's services would definitely be called on me.

Ahhh, the power of music.

  1. That is too funny. Amara is one happening little girl.

I am so out of it - I watched the VMAs last night & didn't even know half the videos.

2.'s "i wanna have groupies" NOT i wanna have boobies. LOL DUH! i'm peeing my pants...

  3. i love it! My favorite is still that she says the words "shackles" in the JT song! hehehee
