Going Gluten Free in a Gluten Filled World

Many moons ago, I went to see a gastroenterologist on the recommendation of my family doctor.

Apparently feeling like your insides are being ripped apart after eating is NOT normal.

So an endoscopy was performed and gluten sensitivity testing done, and wouldn't you know it. I was told I have a gluten intolerance.

And of course, I ignored the doctor. I mean, I didn't have Celiac's Disease so really this all came down to me being extremely uncomfortable anytime I ate bread or pasta or cake. No biggie right?

Yea... it kinda was a big deal.

So it's been nearly a month of no cookies for breakfast.

I've been living on a lot of smoothies, veggies and fish.

I've eaten at some of my fave restaurants, like Hodge's and Noodlecat and The Oak Barrel, and had delicious gluten free meals.

Honestly, I don't miss the gluten.

I have more energy. My digestive system feels healthier. I've been migraine-free too.

Am I strict proponent of a gluten free lifestyle? Absolutely not! But eliminating a lot of the foods with gluten from my diet has me feeling spectacular. I already feel the difference.

And I'm six pounds down. Not too shabby.

I'm lucky. I don't have to worry about cross-contamination. If I slip and have a roll with dinner, I'll be ok.

But I'm also lucky because the doctors identified what was wrong with me. And with a diagnosis, I can choose to live a better life.

Are you on a restricted diet? What are some of your favorite recipes? Favorite Cleveland restaurants? I'd love to know!
