Step Right Up To PIPPIN

It is no secret I am a huge supporter of the arts in Cleveland. Northeast Ohio has built a reputation for world-class productions and performances. It's one of the reasons why I heart Cleveland so much.

Yet still, with the announcement of PIPPIN arriving at Playhouse Square for this year's Broadway in CLE season, I wasn't sure what to expect. I mean, circus acts and magic tricks on the Connor Palace stage?!

But from the opening act, my daughter and I were enthralled with PIPPIN. The revival of the 1970's musical is a tale set in Medieval times. It's eye-popping feats, humorous scenes and catchy lyrics moves pulled us right in. Guess that explains why it won a Tony in 2013 for Best Musical Revival.

The choreography was very Fosse, which of course delighted my daughter to no end. And
the troupe of performers - from fire throwers, aerialists to contortionists - impressed us the entire evening.

We had seats so close, we would make any theater-goer envious. And in all honesty, it made this choir geek long to be back on the stage!

Here are some interesting facts we found out about the show:
  • Many of the cast members have experience with Cirque du Soleil.
  • Songs from the show are from the same composer as Wicked.
  • John Rubinstein, the actor who plays Charles on tour, played the originated title role in the 1972 Broadway show.
Playhouse Square never disappoints. And PIPPIN is no exception. If you're looking for a magical show, this is one to check out.

Step right up!
Tickets for PIPPIN, which runs through February 15, 2015, can be ordered online here.

Disclosure: I was provided two tickets to Pippin and invited to a pre-show reception by Playhouse Square. As always, the thoughts written here are my own opinions. Because we know I wouldn't have it any other way.
